Congratulations to the Belfast Giants who became Elite League champions on Friday night when they beat nearest rivals Sheffield Steelers 5-1 the Giants had only to win one of their two home game this weekend to be champions both games being against the Steelers but they won both winning again on Saturday night 5-2

 Tuesday night they played host to Hull Stingrays the flyers were 2-0 up after the first twenty but two goals in the last couple of minutes of the second tied it but the Flyers were to get a rare win with two goals in the third without reply for a 4-2 win

Saturday saw the Flyers travel to Braehead to play the Clan with nothing but pride to play for for the Flyers and the Clan already in the play off’s  the game was played at a very subdued pace and the Flyers struck first to go in 1-0 up after twenty the Clan stepped up a gear in the second and scored three quick goals although Flyers made it 3-2 with seconds remaining in the period Clan eventually ran out 6-2 winners.

Finally on Sunday Flyers played host to the Cardiff Devils again going down this time 5-1

Club Statement

Fife Flyers will launch their first ever webcast this Saturday when Dundee Stars visit Fife Ice Arena in what will be the final home gameof the season. The game will see the Flyers play in a commemorative special jerseys for the final home game. Two games midweek both involving Edinburgh Capitals firstly on Wednesday they went down 4-2 at Coventry then on Thursday losing 10-4 at Cardiff Devils,

Saturday the one other game i have not covered is Coventry’s 3-2 win at Edinburgh,Sunday saw Coventry travel to on form Dundee Stars and easily win4-0,Steelers suffered a third straight defeat over the weekend going down 4-3 at Hull,Finally Nottingham Panthers had a 4-3 home win over Braehead Clan.

Fife Flyers & Elite League w/e 26/2

Fife Flyers had three tough games this week home and home games against current champions and second placed so far this season Sheffield Steelers and a home game against challenge cup holders and this years finalists Nottingham Panthers.

Flyers travelled to Sheffield on Tuesday night but were well beaten 5-1 it was a different game when the two sides met again in Kirkcaldy on Saturday night after a goalless first period Flyers took a two goal lead in the second but were pegged back but Fife showed great determination to go ahead 3-2 after 4o minutes Steelers scored three unanswered goals in the third to win 5-3.

But Flyers should have got a point out of the game as with a few minutes left to play they scored what looked like a good goal the goalie had the puck in his glove but his glove was across the line the goal judge awarded the goal but the linesman and the ref had a discussion and the ref chalked the goal off that would have made it 4-4 but instead Flyers pulled their goalie and Steelers scored an empty net goal.

On Sunday night  they played host to Nottingham Panthers i can’t write much on this one as i couldn’t attend but they gave a good account of themselves but again went down this time by 4-3

The first Elite League game was on Friday night when Braehead Clan took on Sheffield Steelers and won by a score of 2-1,four games on Saturday saw Braehead pick up another two points with a 5-4 win at Edinburgh Capitals after a shoot out,leaders Belfast Giants went to Hull Stingrays and thrashed them 8-0 and Nottingham Panthers had a 6-3 home success over Cardiff Devils.

Sunday Cardiff won 5-3 at home to Hull Belfast made it a four point weekend with a 5-0 win at Coventry Blaze Sheffield had a 7-0 win at Edinburgh and in an exiting game at Dundee the home team game back from 5-2 down to eventually win it 6-5 after a shoot out against Braehead.

Fife Flyers & Elite League w/e 19/2

I am starting with news that with immediate effect i can no longer take photo’s at Flyers home games we have been told this is infringing copyright.

There were three games in the elite league last midweek on Wednesday night Fife made the long bus trip to Cardiff to take on the Devils and the Flyers found themselves leading by 2-0 after the first twenty but as has happened so often this season they couldn’t hold or build on a lead and eventually went down by a score of 4-2 mind you the last goal was an empty netter.

On Tuesday night second placed Sheffield Steelers took on third place Nottingham Panthers and came out 4-2 winners

Thursday night saw Sheffield travel to play the Dundee Stars and won a very exiting encounter 5-4

The final midweek game saw leaders Belfast Giants thrash Hull Stingrays by 6-1

Fife Travelled to Belfast for their only game of the weekend on Saturday and were well and truly beaten by a score of 7-1 which leaves the Flyers well and truly rooted to the bottom of the league

Other games on Saturday saw Braehead Clan overcome Coventry Blaze 4-3 at the Braehead Arena Nottingham gained revenge over Sheffield by beating them 5-1 at home and in the final Saturday game Dundee won 6-3 at Edinburgh Capitals.

Three games on Sunday saw Nottingham thrash Edinburgh 9-0 in the Scottish capital  Braehead completed the double over Coventry by winning 6-4 away and Cardiff came out 5-3 winners in Hull.

Fife Flyers only had one game this weekend at home to Braehead Clan it turned out to be one of the poorest performances of the season and was the Flyers fourth defeat on the bounce.

After the performances improving in December and January things have slipped back to the awful performances they produced during the early part of  the season and any chance they had of making the play off’s seem to be pretty remote now the next four games see the Flyers  take on fourth place Cardiff Devils first place Belfast Giants and second place Sheffield Steelers and third place Nottingham Panthers hard to see any points being picked up in these games.

Other results in the Elite League this weekend saw Cardiff Devils record a 5-2 home win over Edinburgh Capitals, hull stingrays move closer to the play-off’s by beating one of their nearest rivals Dundee Stars 4-3 away from home, leaders Belfast Giants won at third place Nottingham Panthers 4-3 after a shoot out,Saturdays final game saw Sheffield Steelers consolidate second with a 3-2 home win over Coventry Blaze.

Sunday saw the reverse of Saturdays games with all teams winning on Saturday doing the double over their opponents Sheffield being 5-3 winners at Coventry, Cardiff winning 3-2 in Edinburgh,hull winning a shoot out against Dundee to win 3-2,and finally Belfast coming from two down to beat Nottingham 3-2 with the winner coming seven seconds from the end of regulation.

Fife Flyers climb off the bottom of the elite league table lasted seven day’s it was a bad weekend for the Flyers they travelled to Coventry on Saturday to take on the Blaze and after the two periods were still in it only being behind 2-1 but fell apart in the third eventually losing 5-1

On Sunday Flyers travelled  to play Scottish rivals the Dundee stars the team they put to the bottom of the table the week before but the stars returned the compliment by thrashing Flyers 6-2 another reason to dislike the stars is A J MacLean who plays for them is the son of sens head coach Paul MacLean but at least we got to remind of how his dads team got on against the leafs.

Else where in the league Coventry Blaze beat Hull Stingrays 8-2 in Hull on Friday night ,on saturday Belfast Giants played host to Cardiff Devils this doubled as a leagues game and second leg of the challenge cup semifinal,Giants won it 4-1 picking up two league points and also progressing to the up final 5-3 overall after losing 2-1 in Cardiff,Nottingham Panthers remain second in the table after beating Dundee 6-2 at home,Saturdays final game saw Sheffield Steelers win 3-0 at home to Hull Stingrays.

Sunday saw Braehead travel to Cardiff and come away with a 5-4 win after a shoot out,and Belfast win 4-2 at Sheffield.
