On Saturday we decided to go on a hockey road trip going from my home town St Andrews to Dumfries & back then on to Dundee on Sunday night we clocked up over 300 miles this weekend just to get our fix of hockey
Solway Sharks who play in Dumfries about 20 miles short of the English border,Solway played in the same league as Fife Flyers for years but when Flyers applied to and were accepted into the elite league at the start of the season this left the Sharks in limbo really within the Scottish game,so they applied to the English league and were accepted but had to start in the lower reaches of the the English league and were put into the English National League 2.
Even before the season started it was widely accepted that the Sharks were far to good for this division and that is the way it turned out,but they still had to go and do the job,their record by the end of the season is outstanding.
They claimed the league title by winning 28/28 matches
Sharks won the Northern cup which included them and three teams from the league above them this was played on a league format playing each team home & home.
Stats from the season…Goals scored…321…Goals conceded…43
Next season’s step up will provide a stiffer test for the Sharks but as their Northern cup campaign this season suggests they have a very good chance of consecutive championships.

Sunday Night In Dundee
On Sunday night we went to Dundee Ice Arena for Dundee Comets vs Dundee Tigers in the Scottish National League.
Comets are the farm club of Elite League side Dundee Stars
These games in the past have been shall we say very competitive if you get my drift and this one didn’t disappoint with five fights (got a couple on video) and comets running out 7-1 winners.
