Fife Flyers continued their great start to the season it’s now played eight won seven and lost one on Saturday night they were in challenge cup action when they welcomed Scottish rivals Dundee Stars to the Fife Ice Arena.
This was the first of a two game home stand this weekend the first time they had come up against the Stars who themselves had had a good start to the season having traveled to Belfast on Thursday night and only lost 2-1 against the reigning Elite League champions
Flyers for the first time in three home games failed to score in the first two minutes of the game but took the lead at 13.33 in the first with a goal by Jason Pitton and that’s how it stood after period one Danny Stewart put Flyers in control by adding a second at 9.43 in the second and continued to control the game and added a third through Haines at 15.43 but switched off at the back and let Ryhanan pull Stars back into the game
Within forty two seconds of the the final period beginning Kris Hogg gave Flyers a three goal advantage once more Baxter again reduced the deficit for Dundee 5.26 into the third Flyers rapped it up with an empty net goal at18.24 Haines with his second final score STARS 2-5 FLYERS
Post Match Interviews vs Dundee Stars
On Sunday Fife played host to Coventry Blaze for the second time this season having been unlucky to go down 4-3 to a last minute goal at the sky dome on the first weekend of the season.
This has to be the best game iv’e seen so far this season end to end hockey goalies on top form this was the Flyers first big test this season to see just how far they had come and they passed the test they were a goal up 12.52 in the first with Haines getting his third goal of the weekend to give the Flyers a first period lead they doubled this at 4.08 of the second through John Dolan but the lead was cut by one of the best players on the ice Brad Leeb at 10.17 in the second so Flyers went into the third holding a 2-1 lead Leebs second goal of the night tied it at 1.40 in the third.
That’s how it finished overtime couldn’t produce a winner so to penalty’s and with Jason Pitton the only player to convert flyers had their second consecutive four point weekend final score BLAZE 2-3 FLYERS after so
